Pine Felling & the Law
Owners are to please make themselves familiar with the laws governing felling of aliens in protected areas. Langvlei Dunes is a protected area:

"...Also a very important factor is to remember the method of clearing. No clearing may be done by bulldozing vegetation or by damaging the topsoil even if a stand is 100% infested with alien vegetation...
..The attached plan also shows the protected areas within the Langvlei Dunes area, these protected areas are managed by SANParks, therefore it is very sensitive vegetation " Diana Mouton, Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning. Email 15/05/2015

Fire
The 2016 Wild Fire in Wilderness and the devastating 2017 Fire Storms that occurred in Sedgefield and Knysna, all the way to Port Elizabeth, are the new realities due to climate change.
A representative from the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association has classed Langvlei Dunes as a high risk fire zone due to the dense alien vegetation. His comment was not "if" there is a fire, but "when" it will happen. If you would like to benefit from being a group member of the SCFPA, kindly contact the LVD Fire Prevention Officer via the Association email address.
